Sports massage was originally developed to help athletes prepare, recover, or function well during training. Sports massage emphasises prevention and healing of injuries to the muscles and tendons. However, you don't have to be an athlete to benefit from sports massage. Sports massage is also good for people with injuries, chronic pain or restricted range of motion, for example in the shoulders or back.

Why is Sports Massage different? chatteris

Sports Massage differs from holistic massage or aromatherapy massage in a number of specific ways:

  • Sports Massage requires additional training and the therapist must have a greater knowledge of the muscular and skeletal systems
  • Whilst it can be relaxing, sports massage works very deep into the muscle to relieve knots- in a "good pain" sort of way!
  • There is no set routine - if I need to spend an hour working on a particular area, that's what I do
  • Sports Massage is better suited to treating a specific problem than having a general pamper or relaxation session

What is involved in a Sports Massage Treatment? chatteris

After a detailed lifestyle consultation, where we will look at the state of your health, and any current injuries affecting you, you will need to remove your clothes except for your pants, and lie face down on the bed. Towels are provided, and they are warmed whenever possible! Depending on what we have agreed, I will commence work on the back of the body and then the front. Once the massage is over, I will give you some time to come back to yourself, and provide you with some water. I will then go through some aftercare advice with you, suggesting any changes to your diet or lifestyle I think are required, and make up any products you may need.
